Webui stops working (unloaded AppDomain); Must restart service to fix
Posted by Ta Baker on 13 October 2011 12:37 PM
Symptom:

Users cannot login to the Webui and this error appears in the log:

System.AppDomainUnloadedException: Attempted to access an unloaded AppDomain. at SRT.Titan.Hosting.ASPNetHost.ProcessRequest(Object context) at SRT.Titan.Hosting.ASPNetHost.Execute(Object context)

If any of the files in the Webui installation folder are modified or touched, this will cause the ASP to recycle the AppDomain thus breaking the Titan Webui.

Cause:

Microsoft has confirmed that ASP could recycle the AppDomain if it believes the contents of the website have been modified, so to avoid this scenario, check to make sure that Windows isn't running any programs that manipulate files in the Webui folder: C:\Program Files\South River Technologies\Titan FTP Server\webui.

Check to make sure that backup software or antivirus software or even the Windows indexer software is not running because if the backup runs or antivirus scans the files in the Titan installation directory then this can happen.

Note: The files do not have to be opened, but if they are scanned or accessed in any way could cause this issue.

Resolution:

Microsoft's recommendation is disable the File Change Notification of ASP. Please apply this MS supplied workaround to your Windows computer on which Titan is running. You will need to set the FCNMode to 1 to completely disable all FCN's for ASP.

Note: After making this change, you must restart the O/S before the change will be accepted by ASP.
